Hope worship Victory Church – Brief History
In early 2007, God placed a deep burden on Pastor Maurice
Onyango Ongonge and his wife Caroline Onyango to reach the people of Mathare, Baba Dogo and
its environs with the gospel. At the time, there were very few churches in
their area that focused on spiritual healing and discipleship due to the
post-election violence of 2007–2008.
After months of prayer, they obeyed God’s call and started a small fellowship
in their living room with just 4 members. Despite financial struggles and
limited resources, God was faithful. The members sacrificed and bought a few
chairs and some basic instruments, confirming God’s hand was upon the vision. Within a year, the church had grown to over 30 members, and they moved to a
school classroom.
As the years passed, the church continued to grow in number and impact. In
2015, the church held its first community outreach and saw over 80 people give
their lives to Christ. By 2018, they had purchased a PA system and leased a
plot where they put up a church structure as their first sanctuary.
Today, Hope Victory Church is a thriving family of believers committed to
worship, word, and community transformation. What began as a small prayer group
is now a beacon of hope to many – and the journey is just beginning.
